Min Yoongi (born March 9, 1993), better known by his stage name Suga (stylized as SUGA), is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He is a member of the South Korean boy band BTS, where he serves as a rapper and songwriter.
Early life
Min Yoongi was born on March 9, 1993, in Daegu, South Korea. He has an older brother, Min Junki. Yoongi began writing raps in the 6th grade, and he started taking an interest in music in high school. He attended the Global Cyber University, where he studied music.
Career
In 2010, Yoongi auditioned for the South Korean talent show "Superstar K". He was eliminated in the first round, but he was later scouted by Big Hit Entertainment. Yoongi trained for three years before making his debut as a member of BTS in 2013.
As a member of BTS, Yoongi has released six studio albums, three EPs, and one compilation album. The group has won numerous awards, including the Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist and the American Music Award for Favorite Social Artist. Yoongi has also released two solo mixtapes, "Agust D" (2016) and "D-2" (2020).
In addition to his work with BTS, Yoongi has also produced songs for other artists, including Suran's "Wine" (2017) and Heize's "We Don't Talk Together" (2018). He has also collaborated with Halsey on the song "Boy With Luv" (2019) and with Ed Sheeran on the song "Make It Right" (2020).
In 2019, Yoongi founded the record label Big Hit Entertainment's sub-label, Belift Lab.
Personal life
Yoongi is known for his introverted personality. He is a close friend of fellow BTS member RM. Yoongi is also a fan of the American basketball team, the Golden State Warriors.
